Get a Job After Bankruptcy

How to Get a Job After Bankruptcy. Being unemployed after filing bankruptcy can be scary. You might have lost your job when your credit rating plummeted, or you might have filed because you couldn't find a job. Potential employers can take your new credit rating into consideration, but finding a job after bankruptcy is possible.

Apply at any place that is hiring. You might have once had a successful career, but right now, your priority is proving you can be a reliable employee. If the application asks if you've filed bankruptcy, be honest and write that you would like to discuss it. Be aware that you might not be considered for job that requires you to be responsible for money.

Dress up for your interview. Your potential employer has probably already formed an opinion of you based on your bankruptcy, and you want to give the impression that you're reliable and responsible. Showing up in jeans and sneakers will only show you're not serious about getting the job.

Answer all the interviewer's questions honestly. Be upfront about the bankruptcy, but don't make excuses. Give examples of your responsibility in the workplace.

Ask if your bankruptcy is going to hurt your shot at employment. This will give the interviewer a chance to voice any concerns and give you an opportunity to reassure your potential employer that you'll be a responsible employee.

Show up for work on time and be a model employee if you're offered the job. Most employers require their employees to complete a probationary period before offering a permanent placement. You'll likely be under more intense scrutiny because of your past.
