Credit Analyst Job Description

A credit analyst reviews and analyzes credit applicants to assess credit worthiness and risk.

Education and Skills

Most organizations require a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience working in credit or collections, financial credit systems and reporting.

Job Responsibilities

Credit analysts are responsible for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of applicant requests for loans and lines of credit. They assess collateral values and credit risk, and prepare written credit-approval packages or denial correspondence.

Work Environment

Work is done in an office environment for a bank, financial services or credit-card organization. Overtime may be required during peak seasons for credit approvals such as holidays shopping season and store sales.

Technology

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that credit analyst occupations will decline from 2006 through 2016 because of technology advances. This will allow applicants to be processed electronically with minimal human interaction.

Salary

Salaries averaged $62,000 a year in October of 2009, according to indeed.com.
